Japan Electricity Generation by Energy Type 2010-2022 (terawatt-hour, TWh)
The chart depicts the electricity generation trends from various energy sources spanning from 2010 to 2022. In 2022, with the exception of oil, solar, and biomass, all other energy types experienced a decrease compared to 2021. Biomass energy exhibited the largest increase at 11.6%, followed by oil at 7.7% and solar at 7.6%. Conversely, nuclear energy saw the largest decrease at 20.8%, trailed by natural gas at 4.4% and coal at 3%.
During the observed period, the proportion of renewable energy generation in the Japanese national total electricity supply surged from 9.5% in 2010 to 21.7% in 2022.
